This is an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer who enjoys a multi-project technical challenge to join one of the largest infrastructure deployment programmes in the UK. You will be responsible for delivering the implementation of a large UK wide multi-vendor IP/MPLS network for a critical national infrastructure transformation project. Home based with some travel required to project offices when required.
Reporting to the Lead Technical Architect, you will be focused on the design and implementation of the fibre and copper access and cover all areas from L2 switched access networks, to the copper access devices as well the management system and support tools to maintain them. You will provide technical expertise throughout the network lifecycle, from network design to operational implementation. This includes migration strategies, handbook writing, technical training and defining detailed provisioning rules. The key components of the network are currently evolving, but are expecting to include Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, RAD and Moxa network devices.
You will be responsible for working within a customer facing project team to deliver and support network solutions for business transition, transformation and business as usual activities.
Create the technical requirements documentation based on business process requirements, support the product/application selection and architecture development processes.
Manage 3rd party suppliers, including technical liaison, technical compliance, inter-dependencies between suppliers, testing, scoping of support contracts and transfer into operations.
End to end responsibility for the specification, design, configuration and deployment of the solutions, including all documentation, statements of work, handbooks, user guides, training and successful transfer into operations.
Develop a strong understanding of the application portfolio used within the operational environment
Provide out of hours support as required for application faults
Undertake network and application configuration
Manage the devices, system and integration testing
Provide support on applications, reports and interfaces
Monitor performance and efficiency of the network and instigate modifications and improvements where necessary
Resolve technical queries
Test new product releases and upgrades
Experience and qualifications
Demonstratable experience troubleshooting, problem-solving and configuring Nokia, Juniper or CISCO networks (to 2nd/ 3rd support level)
Preferably Nokia, Juniper or CISCO certified (NRS, JNCIA, CCNA etc)
Previous experience of delivering successful projects within a customer facing organisation.
Experience implementing and support networks within either business, service management or network management domains
Ability to create clear and concise technical specifications
Team working to consolidate knowledge, requirements and solutions to deliver the best team result
Analytical and creative ability to develop logical and innovative solutions to complex problems Self-motivated and results orientated to see complex problems through to a solution.
Strong communication skills
